Introducing Spåna: never miss what your sensors are telling you
The Spåna team
Smart-home sensors are great at collecting signals – motion in the hallway, a door left open, a sudden temperature drop. They are far less great at telling you when something actually matters. The data sits in an app you only open when you remember to.
Spåna fixes that. It watches your IKEA DIRIGERA hub and turns sensor events into clear, timely notifications – so you find out the moment something needs your attention, wherever you are. From a front door left open to an elderly parent’s morning routine, you decide what’s worth a ping.
How it fits together
- A small agent you run on an always-on device on your home network (e.g. a home server, a Raspberry Pi, or any Docker host). It talks to your DIRIGERA hub locally and forwards events to the Spåna service over an encrypted connection.
- The Spåna service, where you set up rooms and alerts, and where notifications are delivered to your phone.
Your hub credentials never leave your network – only sensor events are forwarded.
Getting started takes four steps
- Sign up for the free beta.
- Get your API key from the dashboard.
- Run the agent on your always-on device with that key.
- Pair your hub, choose what to watch, and start getting notified.
That’s it. No soldering, no extra radios, no cloud lock-in for your hub.
What’s next
We’re building Spåna in the open with the prosumer community. Expect posts here on install recipes (Docker, Home Assistant, Raspberry Pi), alert patterns, and what we learn running it in real homes.
